Hal L. was one of the most dastardly characters in any Adam Sandler movie.
Get ready, because the malevolent, mustachioed orderly is back.
Ben Stiller, who played the character in the 1996 comedy “Happy Gilmore,” has returned as Hal in “Happy Gilmore 2,” now filming in New Jersey.
Stiller, 58, filmed with Sandler at Roosevelt Elementary School in Kearny Friday morning.
And yes, the mustache was in full effect, only a little silvered this time, along with the rest of the character’s hair.
Stiller hung out with his stunt double Greg Fitzpatrick on set. They wore identical black vests, blue shirts, double earrings, yellow-tinted glasses and “Hal L.” name tags
In the original “Happy Gilmore,” hockey guy Happy enters a pro golf tournament to save his grandmother’s house.
Stiller’s nursing home orderly character, Hal L., plays nice to Happy’s face and acts like he treats his grandmother (Frances Bay) with the best care. But when Happy leaves, he turns into a harsh taskmaster who barks at the woman and forces seniors living there to produce quilts during their arts and crafts time so he can sell them.
On set Friday, Sandler, 58, and Stiller could be seen with actors dressed as FBI agents.

Sandler, who reprises the role of Happy Gilmore for the Netflix sequel, is a producer and co-writer of the movie, which has been filming all over Jersey, including South Orange, Newark, Ideal Beach in Middletown and the golf courses of private country clubs like Fiddler’s Elbow in Bedminster.
“Happy Gilmore 2,” directed by Kyle Newacheck (who directed Sandler in the 2019 film “Murder Mystery”), sees the return of more characters from the first movie.
Emmy winner Julie Bowen (“Modern Family”) reprises the role of Virginia Venit, Happy’s love interest. Bowen has said that Virginia and Happy are still together.
And Christopher McDonald is back as Shooter McGavin, the pro golfer who served as a nemesis to Happy in the first film.
Joining the “Happy Gilmore” originals will be some new cast members. One is football player Travis Kelce, Kansas City Chiefs tight end and Taylor Swift’s boyfriend.
Actor and director Benny Safdie (“The Curse,” “Uncut Gems,” “Oppenheimer”) and music megastar Bad Bunny, aka Benito Martínez Ocasio (whose screen credits include “Narcos: Mexico” and the films “Bullet Train” and “F9″), are also in the cast.
So is frequent Sandler collaborator Nick Swardson (“Leo,” “Sandy Wexler,” “Pixels,” “Grown Ups 2,” “You Don’t Mess with the Zohan,” “I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry”).
Rapper Eminem is also rumored, per the U.S. Sun, to have a surprise cameo in the movie.
There was an open casting call in August for New Jersey extras and background actors for “Happy Gilmore 2,” which is expected to hit Netflix sometime in 2025.
Ben Stiller previously filmed in Jersey for “Severance,” the Apple TV+ series he directs and produces. Scenes for the long-awaited second season of the show, premiering Jan. 17, were filmed in April and May of 2023 at Bell Works in Holmdel, the former home of Bell Labs, where the show also filmed in its first season.
